Religious Accommodations

If You Need to Request an Alternate Date Due to a Religious Observance:

  • Pencil-and-Paper Examinees—If requesting accommodations for the October 2023 pencil-and-paper PE Structural exams, all requests and supporting documentation must be received by 3:00 p.m. EDT on August 31, 2023. Applicants are encouraged to register for the exams as early as possible.
  • Computer-Based Examinees—Because of the flexibility in scheduling computer-based tests, religious accommodations cannot be requested. Most disciplines are offered year-round on most business days, and at some sites, there is availability on the weekends.
Requesting Alternate Test Dates

During registration, you will be asked if you need special accommodations; answer yes. After registering, you will be sent an email with a link to the accommodations section of your account, where you can indicate your religion and upload documentation.

You must make the request for special accommodations each time you take an exam, even if you have been granted an alternate test date for a past exam.

Supporting Documentation

During the exam registration process, you will be able to request an alternate test date. You will then be required to submit supporting documentation from a religious official such as a priest, rabbi, or cleric. This documentation must

  • Confirm that you are a member of the denomination in question
  • State that this denomination’s Sabbath takes place on the day of the scheduled exam
  • Be submitted and signed on official letterhead by the religious official
  • Be dated within one year of the exam administration date
Notification

Generally, once your supporting documentation has been received, it takes about 5 business days to complete processing. After your request has been considered, NCEES will notify you of any alternate date testing granted.

Your exam date will be arranged by either the licensing board or its testing service; in most cases, the exam is given on the next day after the nationally scheduled day.

Communications from NCEES about your request are through email only, so please check your messages often in case more details are needed from you.

If you have questions about the process or need to upload supporting documentation, please email religious@ncees.org.
